I tried Basil for the first time with my family on 8/31/14 and within the span of one meal, it became my new favorite Italian restaurant in Berks County! We got to the restaurant at around 6:30 pm and upon walking inside, I was impressed by the decor. The place is small (Max Occupancy 48), but definitely cute. We were greeted promptly and handed a number. We waited for a table for about 30 minutes, but as soon as I saw the menu, I knew why. This place crafts all of their dishes fresh, on the premises, which is something that is extremely rare in our area. Our server, Makayla (SP?) was super sweet and got us started with some Caesar salads and bread. The bread came to the table warm and was paired with some delicious oil for dipping. Next came the Caesar salads, which tasted lovely (not even a hint of fishiness). The orders that came to our table were Chicken Fra Diavolo (mine), Lobster Ravioli, Venetian Chicken and plain ravioli. The Chicken Fra Diavolo was some of the best food I've ever consumed in my 35 years on this planet. The chicken was tender, juicy and delicious and the Fra Diavolo sauce was super spicy and flavorful. The combination of the two together, really worked amazingly well. I also had a bite of the Venetian Chicken, which was equally as delicious. The same delicious chicken, coupled with the spinach, tomatoes and fresh mozzarella, really made the dish pop. My wife and father-in-law also raved about the ravioli. I should also note that the portion sizes of this place were extremely generous, which made an already delightful eating experience last even longer. The prices were also very affordable. We ended the meal with two of Basil's homemade desserts. We selected the strawberry shortcake and spice cake, which were both out-of-this world! This place was so good that my wife and I returned the next day for lunch and got their pizza. Again, I was floored at how good it was! The sauce was packed with flavor and the fresh cheese and dough made it one of the best pizzas I've had in a long time. If I had to include a criticism, I would have to say that the only reason I didn't give the restaurant 5 stars is because we waited about 10 mins to sit down when a table was open. However, the place was very busy and I assume this issue will be worked out when they complete the expansion of their dining area, which is currently underway. In closing, if you're looking for one of the best Italian meals around, head to Basil!!

The food at Basil is excellent! I'm not sure if we were there on an off day, but they were out of my first two choices (pesto and meat ravioli), but I was pleased with my third choice of penne in vodka sauce. My sister got the gnocchi in sage butter. Both dishes were enormous and super rich, but delicious! None of us were big fans of the bread before our meal (which is usually the best part of an Italian meal!). It was very plain, even dipped in the oil. Needs some improvement. The inside of the restaurant is divided into two sides... One side appears to be more casual. I'm not sure if they have different menus. The service was great. If you want alcohol, it's BYOB.

Horrible. Worst sauce I have ever tasted. Tasted burnt. Brandon was acceptable. But the veal parmigiana was bad. Had such high hopes for this place.

A good way describe Basil is a restaurant with an identity crisis. It can't decide if it wants to be a good pizzeria or a below average Italian restaurant. This was blatantly obvious when my girlfriend and I arrived as half the place looked like a take out place, and the other looked like a sit down restaurant. When looking at the menu, most of the food is extremely Americanized. My girlfriend got the Chicken Parm, the chicken was completely overcooked and the pasta tasted like it was out of the box, the marinara was pretty on point though. I got the crab stuffed branzino, which was completely under seasoned and underwhelming, I'm not exaggerating when I say the pasta had no flavor at all, even with sauce. One thing to avoid though is the dessert. They claim it is "fresh". By this they mean it was made earlier in the day and is kept in a refrigerator all day. We got a slice of cake which would have been good if it was not nearly frozen. All this aside, the service was fantastic and the pizzas looked good, we are willing to give them a try sometime in the future but we won't be eating from their entrée menu again.

Loved this place! Great story about a guy chasing a girl and ending up in Berks County. Well it's our gain for sure! We headed out in bad weather to try this place early in the week and we were impressed! We had heard that it gets very busy but because of the bad weather we were seated right away. It filled up just after we arrived. The dining room is very clean but small. They have another side dining room that is much larger that is opening up shortly so it should open up the seating quite a bit. I had the Chicken Fra Diavolo and it was absolutely delicious! It was very spicy but the chicken was cooked perfectly and the homemade pasta was very tasty. My wife had the lobster ravioli and loved it. The kids split a pizza and had cups of Italian wedding soup that worked out fine for them. Portions were very large and I'm a big eater! I took my chicken home and had it for lunch the next day and it tasted even better reheated. The wait staff was very nice and the place was busy for a wet and dreary early weekend night. It's BYOB. I cant wait to go back.

I was the 1st customer arriving @ 1130, not ten min. later a party of 10 & 2 tables of 2 showed up. My service was not great due to the waitress being overwhelmed but I wasn't that needy so it worked out for her. I got the bass w/ crab on top of ang. hr. the creamy pepper sauce on top was a complete compliment to the dish It Was Delicious! A salad comes w/ dinner entrees, clean fresh salad but nothing special no bread but I wasn't looking for any it just surprised me that for the price of a meal it's not offered. I also got the real deal cheese steak to go, equally as yummy perfectly seasoned great roll! Its clean inside, no one in kitchen or food prep area wears hair nets. Food good enough that I will return to try other dishes.

Best Italian food I found around Lititz for now! The real italian dishes, just like in Italy. Home made fresh pastas, veal, ... The swordfish is simply delicious. Also have some typical Italian appetizers. The Tiramisu is just the best one I've eaten in a restaurant in this area (mine is still better ... but, it s ok). Did not try the pizza, maybe another time.

We just held my daughter's graduation dinner here. 17 people, some very picky, some with very sophisticated tastes. This place knocked it out of the park! I can't rave enough about the stuffed mushrooms. The ricotta balls were also a huge hit! Dinner portions were more than generous. Lobster ravioli is fabulous, stuffed shells were beyond stuffed. We left sated and happy, but disappointed that we didn't leave room for dessert....they looked fabulous! Absolutely recommend this fantastic restaurant!

Food is excellent. Not sure what these couple of other people were talking about. YELP should check the validity of their reviews. Everything seems home-made. Good flavor and natural goodness doesn't equal bland. If you want sugary/over sauced out of the can stuff. ... go somewhere else. Ambiance is a little underwhelming. It's 1/2 pizza (bright/ open), and half nice. They're working on it. .. but come for the food. Katie the waitress is excellent. Very engaging, with good suggestions. Great to have some homemade and tasty Italian here. One word. ... baby lobsters. OK that's two, but you need to try it.

Very unassuming, tucked away in a rural part of town. Clean. There are two parts of the restaurant- the pizza parlor side and the dining room style side. We sat in the dining room side. Very friendly wait staff! BYOB. Everything we ordered was delicious. Ricotta balls, long hots ( spicy), veal dishes were HUGE. Homemade pasta was fabulous. All food came out fresh and hot. I'd love to say we ate dessert, however, we were so full!!

Yuck! From the frozen pasta to the rude service, we will not be going back. They never came back to make sure all was well, which it wasn't. They dropped off the check and walked away. We got the feeling like we were disturbing them for being paying customers. Glad we used the gift certificate since we won't be going back

First time in for lunch the dining room is nearly full of happy patrons including me. The food is just delicious. Prices are more than fare for the serving size. Staff is friendly. And they are expanding with a larger dining room. I will be back sooner than later. Posted pictures of my meal the crab balls and Penne Vodka with chicken. some of the best food I have had and I am a big food geek. Just a great place can't wait to try more dishes.

First time there, restaurant just opened in June. Wings were good, buffalo chicken pizza was awesome!!! Only complaint was that 2 pizzas and wings took 40 minutes til it was ready. Was greeted immediately upon entering, cashier was busy but super friendly. We will definitely be trying this place again!

We came for dinner on Wednesday at 4pm and beat the crowd. Veal dishes were excellent and huge. BYOB saves a lot of money and you can bring a bottle you prefer. Restaurant has 11 tables and doesn't take reservations. Service was good and the place was very clean. Expanding in the near future. We will return.

Family decided to try this place out after receiving a menu in the mail. We ordered delivery. Food took well over an hour and a half to arrive and when it did it was cold and short a large pizza. Haven't been back since.

Good food good service good deserts. We have been there twice in a week. Chef believes in fresh and so do we. Get that standard up.

Second time getting pizza here and both times I was not impressed. The wings looked like an entire bottle of ranch dressing was dumped on top, not tossed at all. Pizza had too much oregano and not enough salt. The first time we got pizza it was undercooked and doughy. My father is a retired pizzeria owner so I will admit I have high pizza standards and this pizza just doesn't do it for me!

Reading all these positive reviews, we must have been there on an "off" night for this place. Our food was mediocre at best and the service was poor (no fault of the server... He was great. They just had him doing too many tables at one time). I'd advise to stay away from the chicken florentine or anything with asparagus. They boil it until it's limp and pale green. The fries are also undercooked and soggy. The meat in their cheesesteaks is overcooked, dry, and sparse. We won't be going back here. To us, that whole first impression thing is important for a restaurant and Basil failed. Like I said, maybe it was just a bad night for them. Hope others have a more positive experience than we did.

Went here on a Sunday for an early dinner with my honey. It was perfect timing around 3:30pm, as the dinner crowd had not shown up yet. It is nice inside (new and clean). We learned that it was byob pretty quickly... keep that in mind if you would like an alcoholic beverage with your meal. We started with the stuffed mushrooms... they were good. They also give you fresh baked bread and oil to start your meal... that was good as well. I opted to have the pesto penne with chicken pasta dish and he decided on the classic chicken parm with pasta. Both came with a delicious side salad of your choice (house or ceasar). The meals were very good. I would only recommend the pesto dish if you really enjoy the taste of pesto. Our bill was reasonable for the meals totaling around the $40 mark. The service was great... as we finished one course... the next was right behind it. The dinner crowd started showing up around 4:30pm... but the atmosphere was still very pleasant. We will be going back, I'm sure.

Been there twice. Once for dinner and once for lunch. At dinner, our waiter did not have a clue what he was doing. I can give that a pass. However the food.... Not sure if we had an off night but it was bland. No taste. The salad to the entree was bland. No taste. I have gone to Italian restaurants all over the USA and in Europe. Many with chefs that were trained in Italy. I almost wonder if the chef from Italy might have not been there that night. I then went back to work and asked the 2 individuals what was so good. That is when I found out they just had subs. So back I went a few days later and tried it for lunch with a business partner. We were given the dinner menus for lunch. When I asked for the lunch menu, that waitress was visibly annoyed. I have never been in a restaurant in my life that at 1145 AM I was given a dinner menu and the waitress got upset that I asked for a lunch menu. Well I ordered an Italian sub, and had to ask for onions because it did not come with them. I got the sub, and the meats looked very good. I then began to eat the sub, and same as the dinner no flavor. I do not think there was oil or vinegar, oregano etc on the sub. Just bland. I will not be back.
